“THE ORACLE & EYE”
Adam Kola is by far one of the leading “ROLLING” visual capture experts world wide, his work has helped document the birth and development of the UK scene for many years. With his images ending up in rolling press such as Unity, Amatuer, Roll2Soul, Be-Mag, Rolls, Dailybread, One mag and his own Kingdom its hard not to have seen his work. This year I’ve teamed up with theORACLE to create something a bit more personnel and rewarding at SJXII. Following the RollingART theme these three images (Click HERE) of Nick Lomax, Oli Short and Chaz Sands (all shot in Liverpool) will form part of the first place awards at SJXII in the Open, Female and New Blood comps. So the winners will not only win an award for there skills but take home a piece of history and a KOLA original. If you havn’t yet visited theORACLE’s website then check out www.adamkola.com
“CRISPS DUB UK : PRODUCER & DJ”
( MindStep Music Label / Orientis Records / Weight & Groove )
Born & raised in Kent, growing up listening to early darkcore & jungle sets progressing through the transitions to drum & bass while keeping track on the underground movements of UK hip hop & garage, music has always been a major part of life for Crisp.
After hearing the first new sounds growing to form the genre now globally recognised as ‘dubstep’, he knew it was time to get turntables & learn the trade.
After a back injury through rollerblading Crisp spent time immobilized at home, spending months listening to the sounds of dubstep expand. Influenced by the sublo weight driven tunes being made by artists such as Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Skream & Kromestar to name but a few, he picked up a copy of Reason & started to learn the basics.
2009 saw Dub Frequency Records sign ‘Coins’ from Crisp, with a release on the DFR E.P, followed by remixes for artists such as Marchmellow & Kent band Maybe We’re Ghosts. At the same time Kent locals Nunn Other & Nunnsta invite Crisp to join them weekly for their 2 hour radio show on Ruff Radio, a Drum & Bass station & label wanting to put dubstep out on their airwaves.
Late 2009 & Crisp met Pressa, a DJ/Producer from north Kent, & started to collaborate on some tunes; ‘Atom’ being one of the final pieces – a tune that received massive feedback & radio play on the iconic Rinse Fm as well as Cyba Fm – a piece that is now signed & forthcoming on Orientis Records.
2010 so far has seen Crisp relocate to Manchester to further the opportunities in production, djing & work, as well as the massive boom in dubstep. Still making collaborations with Pressa, with releases forthcoming, Crisps tunes are now frequently in rotation on Rinse, Cyba & Sub Fm as well as clubs over the UK & Europe thanks to the DJs pushing the deeper side of the dubstep genre.
With Releases forthcoming on Orientis Recordings with Pressa (ORTS002 12″ – Atom / Symptoms) & MindStep Music Label, the remainder of 2010 will see Crisp producing more beats & remixes as well as playing out at various events in the UK.
